Mykolaiv sappers told about the variety of Russian ammunition they had to work with during the war

During the full-scale war, Mykolaiv sappers had to work with ammunition, the existence of which they did not even know before.

This is stated in the story of NikVesti «Mykolaiv. Heroes of the home front: rescuers told about the most difficult moments of work during the war».

According to pyrotechnician Oleksandr Rak, from time to time in the work of sappers there are Russian projectiles about which it is impossible to find any information.

«Before the war, we mostly worked with ammunition from the Second World War. When we started working with new ammunition, some of them we had not even seen before, there was no information about them at all,» said the sapper.

He noted that the profession of a pyrotechnician requires constant development and improvement of his knowledge.

«Not everyone will be able to do such work, you need to live this work and constantly improve your knowledge. On the one hand, it is interesting, and on the other hand, it is dangerous,» said Oleksandr Rak.

Yes, the man himself almost died while working with enemy ammunition. The projectile detonated before the specified time, the man received shrapnel injuries.

«On March 30, we went to the place where the MRL was covered. The first day we marked the ammunition, the next day we came to detonate it. I had already planted explosives to detonate the ammunition, apparently the time to eliminate it had passed and it detonated on its own. I was lucky and it detonated before I planted the explosives. Well done guys, they reacted quickly, my partner ran up, pulled me away from the explosion site, provided first aid, applied a tourniquet. Then the medics came and took me to the hospital. A few fragments remained, but everything is fine,» recalled the pyrotechnician.

As Oleksandr Antko, a sapper of the State Emergency Service, noted, a large assortment of ammunition is encountered in the work today. The most powerful projectile with which he had to work was an aerial bomb weighing about 500 kilograms.

«In general, we come across a variety of ammunition, a very large assortment of explosive items, we also encounter anti-personnel mines and anti-tank mines. The most powerful explosive item was probably the FAB-500 — a 500-kilogram aerial bomb,» the pyrotechnician said.

We remind you that the author of the project «The world inside out. Ukraine» Dmytro Komarov visited the mined territories of the Mykolaiv region and showed the work of local sappers.

It was previously reported that as of October 2023 , 13 thousand 40 hectares of land in the Mykolaiv region have already been demined, including 9 thousand 25 hectares of agricultural land.

Previously, NikVesti told about a farmer from Kyselivka, who is trying to demine his fields by himself.

And in the village of Maksymivka of the Pervomaisk UTC of the Mykolaiv region, local residents live with an unexploded shell under the foundation of the house.

In addition, the demining situation in Maksymivka is critical today. A year after liberation from the Russian occupiers, the village was demined by only 40%.
