Compared to last year, the number of road accidents involving children in Mykolaiv has doubled.
Oleksandr Plitkin, the chief doctor of the Mykolaiv Regional Children's Clinical Hospital, announced this on the air of the MART TV channel.
According to him, in 2022, 56 cases of traffic accidents involving children were recorded, and in the current year this number has already reached 109 cases, which is almost twice as much.
— We (doctors — ed.) are most concerned about traffic accidents involving children. In 2022, we had 56 cases of traffic accident reports, and this year we have already recorded 109 cases. That is, the number of cases where children end up in the hospital due to road accidents has practically doubled. For example, a child was riding a bicycle and collided with a car, or a child was hit by a car while crossing the road on a bicycle. There are cases when some children were admitted to the hospital after 12 o'clock at night. The question arises, what is the child doing on the street after 10 o'clock in the evening, where are the parents?, — said Oleksandr Plitkin.
As you know, for 9 months of the current year, the patrol police of the Mykolaiv region registered 2,224 road accidents, of which 35% were accidents with fatalities or injuries.
It will be recalled that on August 10, in Mykolaiv, a Volkswagen driver, driving at high speed along Velyka Morska Street on the lane reserved for public transport, crashed into the Tavria. In the middle of the passenger car were two children - a boy and a girl, about 7 and 4 years old. At the time of the collision, the latter flew out of the car onto the road under the feet of pedestrians.
It is worth noting that in July 2022, the head of Mykolayiv OVA Vitaly Kim announced that he would take cars from military personnel who violate traffic rules.
Also recently, on September 1, in the center of Mykolaiv, at the intersection of Pushkinska and Nikolska streets, a Jeep Compass hit a woman who was crossing the street at a crosswalk.
We will remind that on September 5, at 9:30 p.m., an accident occurred on the T-15-06 highway near Pervomaisk. As a result of the accident , the car driver and a passenger died. The driver of the Opel Vectra passenger car lost control and drove into a ditch with subsequent overturning.
