Road traffic accidents (RTAs) are one of the leading causes of injuries and fatalities on the roads of the Mykolaiv region. In 2023, the region recorded 3,239 RTAs, resulting in 120 fatalities and 1,363 injuries, including 222 children. The highest number of accidents occurred in the fall, particularly during the evening hours from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

The main causes of RTAs include:

  • Violation of maneuvering and intersection rules.
  • Exceeding safe speed limits.
  • Failure to maintain a safe distance between vehicles.
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol.

If you witness an RTA or find yourself in a dangerous situation on the road:

  1. Immediately call emergency services at 102.
  2. Ensure safety at the scene, if possible.
  3. Assist the injured, but avoid moving them unless absolutely necessary to prevent worsening their condition.

Adhering to traffic rules and staying alert on the roads can help save your life and that of other road users.
