The number of victims of landmines will increase to at least 9,000 in the next 10 years

In the next 10 years, the number of victims of detonation using explosive devices in Ukraine may increase to 9,000 people.
This is stated in the article «How to demine Ukraine quickly? How many Patron dogs do you need?» with reference to the forecast of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine together with the Kyiv School of Economics.
It should be noted that 174,000 square kilometers remain potentially dangerous in Ukraine, which is a third of the entire territory of the country. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, 928 people have been injured by mine explosions. 287 people died, including 15 children, another 641 people were injured, including 77 children.
«In the next ten years, the number of victims of explosions, according to forecasts, will amount to at least nine thousand people. However, no one knows what this number will actually be,» the article says.
We will remind that as of March, since the beginning of 2024 , 17 people were blown up by landmines in the Mykolaiv region, 4 of them died.
