On Thursday, March 7, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved the candidacy of Valerii Zaluzhnyi for the position of ambassador of Ukraine to Great Britain.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine.
«The President of Ukraine approved the candidacy of Valerii Zaluzhnyi for the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has sent a corresponding request for an agreement to the British side,» the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
It should be noted that the previous ambassador was the former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vadym Prystaiko, who was appointed by Zelenskyy on July 20, 2020 . He was fired in July 2023 after Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented to then British Defense Minister Ben Wallace about the need for greater gratitude to allies.
We will remind, on February 8, Valerii Zaluzhnyi was dismissed from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the head of the committee, thanked him for two years of protecting Ukraine and offered to «continue to be together in the team of the Ukrainian state.»
Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi was appointed as the new commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces.
The head of Mykolayiv RMA Vitalii Kim considers the decision to change the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to be correct.
At a press conference on February 25, Volodymyr Zelenskyy did not answer journalists' questions about why he fired Valerii Zaluzhnyi, calling it an «internal moment."
