US President Donald Trump said he plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.

Reuters reports that Donald Trump spoke to journalists on board Air Force One during a flight to Washington from Florida.

«I will speak with President Putin on Tuesday. A lot of work has been done over the weekend,» he said.

Donald Trump also added that he wants to understand whether it is possible to end the war.

«Maybe we can, maybe we can't, but I think we have a very good chance,» he said.

Reuters notes that Donald Trump is trying to get Vladimir Putin to agree to a 30-day ceasefire, which Ukraine agreed to last week. At the same time, both sides continue massive air strikes, and the Russian army has come close to pushing Ukrainian troops out of their months-long foothold in Russia's western Kursk region.

When asked about possible concessions, Donald Trump said: «We're going to talk about territories. We will talk about power plants».

He also noted that the United States has already had significant discussions with both sides.

«We are already talking about this with both Ukraine and Russia, dividing certain assets,» Donald Trump concluded.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump posted that he had a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The White House clarified that it was Special Representative for the Middle East Steve Witkoff who spoke to him, not the American leader.

Donald Trump also said that his US special envoy Steve Witkoff did not wait for hours to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin during his visit to Moscow. He called the reports about this «fake news».
