The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Senkevych, responded to the criticism of the townspeople after his statement about repairing the monument to St. Nicholas in Kashtanovy Square.
He posted a video on his Telegram channel urging people to stop reading news from anonymous Telegram channels that distort information.
We will remind that the mayor recently offered to bring the monument into proper shape. In the comments under the mayor's post and in anonymous telegram channels, some were outraged by the actions of the authorities, claiming that any reconstruction work, for which funds need to be allocated during the war, is inappropriate.
In turn, Oleksandr Senkevych advised to read and analyze in more detail the information that Mykolaiv residents consume in the mass media, in particular, in channels that publish fakes and false information.
— In our anonymous telegram channels, dirt was immediately poured: «Senkevych planned to thoroughly repair the monument.» The fact that they post a video without a link to my Telegram channel, so be damned. The fact that the bots started promoting the topic «Let's get up, raise the revolution», let him too... But I look there and see some people from Mykolaiv who catch the wave of hate, basically without watching this video. Let's develop critical thinking. Don't just read the headlines, just watch the video, don't spread the treason, because there are actually a lot of people who make decisions besides me. And this decision depends on what the people of Mykolaiv need today, so develop critical thinking and don't read only the headlines, because they distort the texts, read the news, analyze, ask questions. Let's not be biomass from Russia, — said the mayor.
«NikVesti» has repeatedly reported that the monument to St. Nicholas is in a depressing state and is gradually collapsing.
In 2020, photos of the monument were published on the network, showing how it was covered with cracks, the tile decoration around the monument was falling off, and in some places it was completely missing.
We will remind you that in October 2022, in order to protect the sculpture from possible shelling by the Russians, the monument to Saint Nicholas was covered with sandbags. In April 2023, communal workers removed bags from the square.
