There is still no Regional Waste Management Plan in Mykolaiv Oblast, which would help deal with overcrowded solid waste landfills and start the process of sorting and processing waste.
This is stated in the article «NikVesti» — «Waste reform on the way to the EU: how Mykolaiv Oblast is learning to deal with waste according to new standards».
Currently, the waste management system in Ukraine is brought into line with European practice and legislation. Communities should start preparing now to recycle household waste in the future, rather than accumulating it.
One of the important steps is the development of a regional waste management plan, which is a component of the national waste management plan in the country and has its own characteristics at the regional level.
Mykolayiv RMA started the development of the Plan in 2020. In August, the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration ordered the development of a document for 2 million hryvnias. The tender was won by «INTEROIL SERVICE» LLC from Lviv, which offered to perform the work for 1 million 850 thousand hryvnias.
However, in connection with the occurrence of a deficit of budget funds, the number of services was reduced and the estimate was adjusted. Of the five stages provided for in the tender conditions, the military administration received two completed and the third unfinished. For this, the performer was paid 1 million hryvnias.
As of October of this year, work on the development of the Plan has been suspended. The Mykolayiv OVA announced that they are waiting for the approval of the adjusted National Waste Management Plan until 2035 in accordance with the changes in the current legislation.
It was previously reported that Mykolayiv expects from Japanese partners new equipment for dismantling destroyed buildings and processing construction waste.
As previously reported, in Mykolaiv it is planned to process the construction debris that was created as a result of the destruction caused by explosions and shelling, in order to use it to fill potholes on the roads or to restore damaged objects.
However, as of now, construction waste has not yet begun to be processed.
It was also reported that by the end of 2023, Mykolaiv should receive from international donors a shredder for construction waste, which was formed as a result of shelling and bombing of the city.
