In Mykolaiv, the local authorities plan to start reverse traffic for traffic on Odesa Highway and Velyka Morska Street in order to decongest city highways.
Mykolaiv City Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych announced this on Wednesday, December 27, during a meeting of the Executive Committee, NikVesti reports.
It is noted that the reversing lane is planned to be implemented in the section from the intersection of Nikolska and Velyka Morska streets to the corner of Odesa and Veselynivska highways. Currently, the traffic scheme is being approved and the necessary equipment for the implementation of the reverse lane is being purchased.
«On the section from the intersection of Nikolska and Velyka Morska to the section where Veselynivska and Odeska highways merge, Velyka Morska street will probably soon become a middle reversing lane in our country. That is, there will be traffic light objects that will show a reversible middle lane. In fact, two lanes will operate at the same time for exiting and entering the city. In the near future, you and I will see changes in traffic quite drastic for Mykolaiv, because we have not yet had lanes with reversible traffic,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.
In addition, the members of the executive committee of the Mykolaiv city council decided to eliminate the pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Nikolska and Velyka Morska streets in the direction of Yuzhnobuzkyi bridge.
We would like to remind you that in Mykolaiv a traffic scheme called «turbo-ring» or «turbo-carousel» will be introduced at intersections with circular traffic.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development noted that the «turbo-ring» scheme in Mykolaiv is designed to speed up the movement of cars at roundabouts and reduce the number of road accidents due to the insufficient regulation of traffic rules when moving around the ring.
