The government allocated another ₴5 billion for shelter in schools: Mykolaiv Oblast will also receive funds

The government allocated about 5 billion hryvnias from the budget for shelters in schools in eight regions, including Mykolaiv.

This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during the government meeting.

Chernihiv, Kherson, Kharkiv, Sumy, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk regions will receive money for shelter in schools.

The Government also allocated almost 216 million hryvnias for school buses.

«This year, the state budget has already provided 2.5 billion hryvnias for the construction of school shelters and 1 billion hryvnias for the purchase of school buses,» added Denys Shmyhal.

He noted that thanks to the allocated funds and co-financing from local budgets, at least 500 school buses will have to be purchased in 2024.

«In this way, regular transportation of schoolchildren to educational institutions that meet all safety criteria and where children will be able to study face-to-face will be ensured,» says Denys Shmyhal.

We will remind that on August 13, 2024, the Government allocated 38 million hryvnias of «educational» subvention from the state budget for educational institutions of the Mykolaiv region. These funds will be spent on the purchase of equipment, books and furniture.

In October 2023, NikVesti reported that the department of architecture of the Mykolaiv RMA concluded 27 direct contracts for the development of design and estimate documentation and the carrying out of capital repairs of public sector institutions with the company from LLC «Architectural Bureau — Khvylia 89», which has been in existence for less than six months, within a month and belongs to a member of the public council of the region on restoration issues. Later, the Mykolaiv RMA explained that direct contracts for the design of shelters with this firm made it possible to save the budget.

As of February 2024, shelters were installed in 31% of schools in Mykolaiv. There are 21 institutions of general secondary education: 10 lyceums and 11 gymnasiums.

As of June 2024, 22 shelters have been set up in Mykolaiv schools since the start of the full-scale war. Repairs are currently underway in 16 more educational institutions.

As of August 2024 , about a thousand more shelters need to be installed in educational institutions of the Mykolaiv region. These are kindergartens, schools, universities.

57 educational institutions were allowed to work offline in the Mykolaiv region. Most of them are schools of Voznesenskyi and Pervomaiskyi districts. In addition, 94 schools work mixed, that is, children learn offline in a certain order, for example, one week after another. Another 277 educational institutions work online.

According to the monitoring of the Department of Education of the Mykolaiv City Council, 65% of schoolchildren want to study full-time.
