Dmytro Lubinets, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, said that Russian prisoners can only write letters, but not call home.

He stated this on the air of the telethon Edyni Novyny.

According to Dmytro Lubinets, there are four special camps for Russian prisoners of war operating in Ukraine, the conditions of which correspond to the Geneva Conventions. He emphasized that Ukraine adheres to international standards, unlike Russia.

«Unfortunately or fortunately, we cannot behave like Russians,» the ombudsman noted, adding that the Geneva Convention is not empty words for Ukraine.

He noted that Russians do not have the right to call home, because the Geneva Convention allows only correspondence.

«As of now, we have been informed that Russians still have the ability to write letters, but they no longer have the right to make phone calls,» explained Dmytro Lubinets.

The ombudsman also expressed concern over the increase in the number of killings of Ukrainian military personnel who surrender. These facts are recorded by both law enforcement agencies and international organizations.
