On October 10, residents of Kherson held a rally against the construction of an anti-radiation shelter near their homes. The townspeople are convinced that the accumulation of construction equipment is attracting the attention of the Russian troops, which is why the shelling has intensified.

This is discussed in the report of Suspilne.

The director of the city's media and public relations department, Denys Putintsev, said that five anti-radiation shelters are planned to be built in Kherson, three of which are already under construction. All are financed from the state budget. The estimate for the construction of one shelter is about 96 million hryvnias.

He emphasized that these premises have a dual purpose: first of all, as educational institutions, and in case of shelling, they will serve as a safe place for all residents.

In turn, resident Pavlo is not sure that children will study in these shelters. Tetyana, a resident, is also actively opposing it, after the shelling her house was left without windows.

«Of course I'm against it, after the construction started, there were more arrivals. There are no windows or doors in the house, so I am against it. Today, the windows were boarded up with OSB boards all day,» Tetiana shared her experiences.

The deputy head of the Ministry of Defense Serhii Oriekhov appealed that the shelling was conducted throughout the city, not only in a separate district.

«The Russian military is hitting institutions, not construction. This is a dual purpose building, and if they are not built in wartime, it will only get worse,» Oriekhov is convinced.

After talking with the authorities, the protesters visited the construction site. The developer refused to comment, people plan to protest in the future.

Previously, Mykolaiv City Hall reported on the arrangement of shelters.

In addition, the government allocated about 5 billion hryvnias from the budget for shelters in schools in eight regions, including the Mykolaiv region.

It should be noted that recently in Berezanka, an anti-radiation shelter in a school was flooded, the readiness of which was checked by deputies and management of the Mykolaiv region in March of this year. 18 million hryvnias were spent on the repair work.

We will remind you that the Department of Education, Youth and Sports of the Kobleve City Council announced a tender for the construction of an anti-radiation shelter at the Rybakivka Lyceum worth over 90 million hryvnias.
