Police name the most common causes of traffic accidents in Mykolaiv: statistics

In 2025, police recorded 1,950 traffic accidents in Mykolaiv. The most common causes of accidents were failure to maintain distance, interval, violation of lane change rules, and speeding.

This was reported to NikVesti by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Mykolaiv region in response to an information request.

Most accidents occurred due to failure to maintain a safe interval — 316 cases. Another 295 accidents occurred due to violations of the rules when changing lanes, and 258 — due to speeding. A significant number of accidents were also related to failure to maintain distance — 248 cases. In addition, police recorded 223 accidents that occurred while reversing.

Other common causes include violations of intersection rules. In particular, 135 accidents occurred due to ignoring priority signs, 73 due to other violations at unregulated intersections, and 70 at regulated intersections. Another 48 accidents occurred due to driving through a red light.

A separate category consists of collisions and accidents involving pedestrians. Thus, 83 accidents were related to violations of the rules for crossing unregulated pedestrian crossings, 22 were related to people suddenly stepping onto the roadway, and 13 were related to crossing the road in unauthorised places.

Earlier it was reported that, according to law enforcement agencies, 24 accidents resulted in fatalities during the year, and another 501 accidents resulted in injuries. In total, 28 people died as a result of road accidents in the city during the year, and another 625 people suffered injuries of varying severity.

We remind you that in Mykolaiv, the police are investigating a traffic accident that killed a 25-year-old female pedestrian. The accident occurred on the evening of 10 January. According to preliminary data, a 20-year-old driver of a Mitsubishi Lancer hit a woman who was crossing the road outside a pedestrian crossing.

Also, in the village of Bereznehuvate in the Mykolaiv region, a woman who was hit by a car on 10 January died. The driver, who was previously detained by law enforcement officers, has been officially notified of the suspicion.
