Mayor of Voznesensk Velychko arrested for two months with bail set at half a million hryvnias

The court arrested the mayor of Voznesensk, Yevhenii Velychko, for two months with the possibility of bail in the amount of more than 565,000 hryvnias.

This decision was made today, 30 January, by the Podilsky Court of Kropyvnytskyi, according to NikVesti.

It is known that the mayor of Voznesensk did not object to the reported suspicion. He said in court that he helped bury the victim of the accident.

It should be noted that the accident occurred in the Kirovohrad region on 28 January. The driver of the Renault Megane died in the accident, and a married couple — a man and a woman — are in a medical facility with bodily injuries.

On 29 January, law enforcement officers detained the mayor of Voznesensk and handed him a suspicion under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — «Violation of traffic safety rules that caused the death of the victim or caused serious bodily injury».

On 30 January, the Kirovohrad region police published a photo of the car of the mayor of Voznesensk, which was involved in a fatal traffic accident on the Mykolaiv-Blahovishchenske highway. According to their information, when the mayor was driving towards the village of Holovanivsk, he drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a Renault.

The Voznesensk City Council reported that the accident involving Yevhenii Velychko occurred during his business trip. On 28 January at 15:47, the Rescue Service received information about an accident involving two cars. The accident itself occurred near the village of Pushkove in the Holovanivskyi district.
