Yevhenii Velychko is the mayor of Voznesensk. In January 2026 he was involved in a fatal road accident in Kirovohrad Oblast while driving his own car. The Podilskyi District Court of Kropyvnytskyi remanded him in custody for two months with bail set at more than UAH 565,000; Velychko posted bail and was released from pre-trial detention. In court he said he had crossed into the oncoming lane in bad weather and then lost consciousness. In September 2026 the case was reassigned because the judge who had been hearing it was dismissed.

MykVisti has also covered the scandal at a Voznesensk City Council session in July 2025, when the mayor swore at councillors over his plan to build a mental health centre on the site of a memorial alley, and his asset declarations, including 78 thousand dollars in cash for 2023.
