Sienkevych instructed municipal services to check the lighting at free water distribution points in Mykolaiv

Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych called on the municipal enterprises Mykolaivoblenergo, DEZ Pilot, and Mykolaivelektrotrans to check the lighting at free water distribution points in the evening.

He made this statement during a staff meeting on 2 February, according to correspondents from NikVesti.

«I would ask you to check the lighting at the water distribution points. Because I drove past some of them and saw that there was no lighting there in the evening. People are using flashlights to light their way. Please check where the lights are. Because some of them have been twisted off, I saw that. Someone stole the lights on Namyv — this light was on that pole. So that people can collect water in a civilised manner,» he said.

The mayor also stressed that utility companies should inform residents in advance about problems with water distribution points.

«I ask that everyone be provided with the necessary equipment, cartridges, chemicals, and so on. If there are any problems with the points, citizens must be promptly informed about the location of the nearest point,» emphasised Oleksandr Sienkevych.

In addition, Mykola Lohvinov, director of OKP Mykolaivoblteploenergo, spoke at the meeting. He noted that in Mykolaiv, there are 28 points of free purified water distribution operating on the basis of the enterprise, which are not affected by power outages. They operate almost around the clock — from 05:00 to 00:00 according to the schedule.

All other purified water distribution points operated by OKP Mykolaivoblteploenergo are working according to hourly power outage schedules or generators — from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The head of Mykolaivoblteploenergo emphasised that the company's employees have already established a systematic workflow, so the distribution points are always gritted and there are no serious problems.

«The teams follow a set route. On the weekend, they walked the route and then returned to it. They covered the ice with salt, sand, and other materials. There were no particular problems because we already have a systematic approach in place,» explained Mykola Lohvinov.

Ihor Holovatyi, director of the Pilot municipal enterprise, said that during blackouts, 42 of the 114 purified water distribution points at the enterprise's base are operating, as they have the technical capability to function without electricity.

«We are following the schedule that we developed some time ago, together with Mykolaivoblteploenergo: water is distributed from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and then from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This is in the absence of electricity. This weekend, the water distribution points operated in this mode,» he explained.

He also noted that the company's work is significantly affected by weather conditions and power outages, which means that utility workers have to manually defrost these water distribution points.

«We all understand that frost and power outages make it impossible to keep the equipment heated at all times. That is why we have people constantly stationed at these distribution points to heat them,» explained Ihor Holovatyi.

According to the director of the enterprise, Yurii Smetana, there are two stationary points operating on the basis of the enterprise, and the delivery of water by electric transport is proceeding without any disruptions.

Purified water can also be collected daily from 6:00 to 20:00 at the following addresses:

There is a technical break from 12:00 to 15:00.

We would like to remind you that in Mykolaiv, due to frost and power outages, there have been problems with the operation of water distribution points — the taps freeze and people cannot collect water. The most stable points of operation are those installed by Mykolaivoblteploenergo.
