Analytics: More than 3,000 cases of drunk driving were recorded in the Mykolaiv region in 2025

In 2025, police in the Mykolaiv region recorded 3,368 reports of driving under the influence.

Across Ukraine, the National Police issued 138,047 reports for drunk driving. This is 8% less than in 2024. This is the first decrease in the last five years — before that, the number of cases had only been increasing.

The highest number of drunk drivers was recorded in the Dnipropetrovsk region — 13,519 cases. The top three also included the Kharkiv (12,095) and Odesa (11,543) regions.

At the same time, the number of such violations increased in four regions. The largest increase was recorded in Rivne (+19%), Khmelnytskyi (+18%), Kharkiv (+8.5%) and Zaporizhzhia (+3%) regions.

The fewest reports were filed in the Kherson region — 1,138 cases, Chernivtsi (1,596) and Ivano-Frankivsk (1,897).

In addition, in 1,044 cases, criminal proceedings were initiated under Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of traffic rules while intoxicated). Fifty-nine per cent of such cases reached court.

In 2025, there were 643 traffic accidents with fatalities or injuries caused by drunk drivers, which is a third less than the previous year. These accidents killed 73 people and injured 857 others.

Overall, one in every 40 traffic accidents with fatalities or injuries in Ukraine was related to drunk driving. For comparison, in 2023 and 2024, this figure was one in every 25 accidents.

It should be noted that in 2025, police recorded 1,950 traffic accidents in the Mykolaiv region. The most common causes of accidents were failure to maintain distance, interval, violation of lane change rules, and speeding.
