Mykolaiv is to receive 40 new trolleybuses by May 2025 as part of support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Danish government.
According to Yuriy Smetana, director of Municipal Enterprise «Mykolaivelektrotrans», these trolleybuses will be equipped with an autonomous range of up to 20 km.
As a reminder, the first trolleybuses with an autonomous range of up to 20 kilometres arrived in Mykolaiv in April 2024 as part of a project with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The mayor announced plans to purchase this new transport in December 2023.
As part of this project, the city has already received 37 conventional trolleybuses through an agreement with the EBRD. However, the agreement was temporarily suspended due to Russian aggression.
«We have now won a tender for 40 trolleybuses with an autonomous range of up to 20 kilometres,» said Yurii Smetana.
We have also signed a grant agreement for EUR 3.9 million from Denmark, which will be used to purchase 9 more trolleybuses.
«In addition, there are preliminary agreements with Denmark to purchase another 9 trolleybuses,» said Yurii Smetana.
As a reminder, on Friday, 4 October, autonomous trolleybuses started running in Mykolaiv's Korabelnyi district. Six units are currently operating on the route and their number will be increased if necessary.
