Ukraine has started exporting its own biomethane to Europe by filing a declaration through the State Customs Service's energy customs.
According to the agency, work on this project lasted two years.
«In today's environment, energy security and environmental sustainability are of paramount importance to Ukraine. Biomethane, as an environmentally friendly and renewable energy carrier, is becoming a strategic resource for the development of the national economy and ensuring the energy independence of our country», the statement said.
The customs office noted that pipeline exports of biomethane open up new prospects for a stable supply of clean gas to Europe.
«Ukraine has a huge potential for biomethane production and can be an important supplier of green energy to the European market. This is another step towards sustainable energy and economic growth, another proof of our resilience and readiness for innovation», the agency said.
As a reminder, on 1 January 2025, Ukraine officially stopped transporting Russian gas in the interests of national security.
