On 1 January 2025, at 07:00, Ukraine officially stopped the transportation of Russian gas in the interests of national security.

This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

It is noted that Ukraine has informed its international partners about this in accordance with the established procedure.

«We have stopped the transit of Russian gas, this is a historic event. Russia is losing markets and will suffer financial losses. Europe has already made a decision to refuse Russian gas. And the European initiative Repower EU envisages exactly what Ukraine has done today», said Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.

Since 1 January, Ukraine's gas transmission system has been operating in a mode without Russian gas transit. The gas transmission system infrastructure has been prepared in advance for zero transit and reliable gas supply to Ukrainian consumers.

As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine would not continue transiting Russian gas.

Later, Russia's «Gazprom» announced that from 1 January 2025, it would stop gas supplies to Moldova's Transnistria due to «failure to fulfil payment obligations».
