Record salaries and debts running into millions: who earns the most in Mykolaiv region and where are wages not being paid?

The average wage in the Mykolaiv region rose to almost 28,000 hryvnias in March, placing the region among the top five regions in Ukraine with the highest incomes. Workers in the energy sector earn the most, yet companies already owe employees 46 million hryvnias in wages.
This is according to data from the regional statistics office, NikVesti reports.
In March this year, the average wage in the region stood at 27,800 hryvnias, which is 12.6% higher than in February. By this measure, Mykolaiv Oblast ranked fifth among Ukraine’s regions.
At the same time, as of 1 April, the total wage arrears in the region had reached 46 million hryvnias. Compared to the previous month, the debt increased by 6%. Mykolaiv region accounts for 1.3% of the total wage arrears in Ukraine.
Who earns the most
The highest wages were recorded in the supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning — an average of 66,200 hryvnias.
The lowest incomes are earned by workers in the mining and quarrying sector — almost 11,700 hryvnias.
Who owes the most in unpaid wages
The bulk of the arrears is in the industrial and manufacturing sectors:
- 47.6% — manufacturing;
- 42.1% — agriculture, forestry and fisheries;
- 9.6% — water supply, sewerage and waste management;
- 0.7% — other activities.
It should be noted that since the start of this year, residents of the Mykolaiv region have earned an average of over 24–25 thousand hryvnias per month.
