In the Mykolaiv budget, there will be enough money for street lighting until the end of 2024. By introducing blackout schedules, the city saves money on electricity.

The mayor of the city, Oleksandr Sienkevych, told about this during the communication with the mass media, writes NikVesti.

It should be noted that at the beginning of 2024, the mayor said that of the 160 million hryvnias needed for lighting the streets of Mykolaiv, the budget allocated only 80 million hryvnias for six months. Currently, due to savings, the city has enough money.

However, according to the mayor, if the situation with the deficit in the energy system does not change, Mykolaiv will replace the lamps with energy-saving ones in the last 5 months.

«If the situation does not change by the end of the year, we will use these funds to replace the lamps with energy-saving ones. While the situation allows us. I have to say, it seems to me that street lighting is not only a matter of beauty, but also of safety, so that people do not fall and feel safe. But if today people are forced to sit without electricity at home and keep food in the refrigerator, worried that they cannot provide basic electricity needs, it will be sacrilege to turn on the electricity in the city. I think that everyone understands this,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

We will remind you that in Mykolaiv, in order to save electricity, it was planned to stop lighting the adjacent territories and buildings of executive bodies, as well as to reduce the lighting on the streets and in parks.

Earlier, during a press conference in May 2024, Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych shared plans to completely replace lighting in the city with LED technology in order to minimize electricity consumption.

As you know, power outages for the population, which began on May 14, 2024, will last until August-September. In winter, a deficit in the energy system is predicted even at high temperatures.
