In 2023, 60,000 books written in Russian were removed from libraries in the Mykolaiv region.
On Thursday, January 11, the head of the Department of Culture, Nationalities and Religions of Mykolayiv RMA Olena Buberenko told about this, writes NikVesti.
«The work on writing off and removing Russian-language publications or publications that are propaganda of the Russian Federation from library collections is ongoing. To date, 60,000 such copies have been written off,» the culture department reported.
As you know, on May 5, 2022, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy announced plans to withdraw Russian propaganda literature from Ukrainian libraries. Instead of books of foreign origin, it is planned to fill the library shelves with quality Ukrainian literature.
As of 2023, the most Russian literature was seized in the Kyiv region — 441,000 copies, Chernihiv — 390,000, Poltava — 200,000, and Bukovyna — 300,000 books.
«Book» law
The bill on banning the import and distribution of books from Russia and Belarus has been waiting for Volodymyr Zelenskyy's signature for more than a year. The President signed it only on June 22.
Prior to this, a flash mob #TimeToSignABookLaw spread on social networks with a call to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to enact the draft law banning Russian book imports, which the parliament adopted a year ago, on June 19.
It is worth noting that before the beginning of the full-scale invasion, books from Russia occupied from 50% to 70% of the Ukrainian market. At present, the large import of Russian books into Ukraine has become impossible.
