In Mykolaiv, they presented the project «That's why I'm staying» about the stories of people who did not leave the city after the start of the full-scale invasion.

This was reported in the Mykolaiv City Council.

The online magazine on visual culture Bird in Flight acted as curators of the art project from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark.

The exhibition consists of 10 photographs, videos and interviews with residents of Mykolaiv.

«The heroes of the stories are representatives of various professions, age categories and genders. But what unites them is the decision to stay in Mykolaiv, despite the danger and daily shelling, when the enemy stood almost at the borders of the city. In their stories, the people of Mykolaiv share why they decided to stay in the city and what, in their opinion, helped Mykolaiv to withstand the enemy,» the message reads.

The premiere of the project took place in the form of an open-air exhibition on Soborna Square in Mykolaiv on January 26, 2024. The exhibition will run until February 25, 2024.

We will remind that as of September 2023, about 350-360 thousand people lived in Mykolaiv. This is the same indicator compared to May of this year.

Earlier, the head of the Mykolaiv Oblast Vitalii Kim said that in the Mykolaiv region currently lives about 80% of the pre-war population, but there are much fewer jobs.
