Mechanised street cleaning is planned to resume in Mykolaiv at the end of March, when the weather becomes drier. Currently, the equipment cannot operate due to wet roads.
This was announced by Vitalii Shevchenko, director of the municipal enterprise ELU Avtodorig, in a comment to NikVesti.
As is known, from 1 January 2026, mechanised street cleaning in Mykolaiv was transferred to the municipal enterprise ELU Avtodorig. At that time, Ihor Nabatov, deputy director of the Mykolaiv Housing and Utilities Department, said that the changes were due to the fact that the municipal enterprise ELU Avtodorig had «proven itself» in the mechanised cleaning of streets and roads.
«Mechanised cleaning has its own specifics. It should be carried out in dry weather, when there is no moisture under the kerbs and on the roads. We have already tried to use the equipment, but it gets clogged very quickly and cannot even travel half a kilometre. Therefore, when it gets a little drier, we will restart mechanised cleaning. I think it will be around the end of March,» said Vitalii Shevchenko.
He added that six special vacuum cleaners will be deployed on the streets of Mykolaiv.
«When it dries up a bit, six vacuum cleaners will go out to clean. In fact, they will work every night, but some streets can be cleaned during the day. For example, Industrialna Street, where residential buildings are located a little further from the road, can be cleaned during the day. That is, several dozen streets will be cleaned during the day, and the rest at night, as provided for by Order №154 of the State Standards of Ukraine,» added Vitalii Shevchenko.
We would like to remind you that in August, the executive committee of the Mykolaiv City Council supported the launch of mechanised street and road cleaning using equipment purchased for the city with state budget funds on its second attempt. It is noted that cleaning with this equipment will reduce local budget expenditures by three times.
We would also like to remind you that the municipal enterprise ELU Avtodorig wants to officially add new functions — from dismantling destroyed buildings to tidying up the areas around buildings.
The equipment planned to be used for these tasks was received by the enterprise as part of assistance from the Japanese organisation JICA. It is currently being used at a construction waste processing site, which was created as a result of Russian shelling of the city, but it is also suitable for dismantling and clearing areas.
