Equipment that cleans the streets of the city. Photo: NikVestiStarting from 1 January 2026, mechanised street cleaning in Mykolaiv will be transferred to the utility company «ELU Avtodorig», and some of the work on demolishing hazardous trees will be transferred to district administrations.
The decision was made on Wednesday, 24 December, during a meeting of the executive committee of the Mykolaiv City Council, according to NikVesti.
According to Ihor Nabatov, deputy director of Mykolaiv's housing and communal services department, the changes are due to the fact that the utility company «ELU Avtodorig» «has proven itself» in mechanised street and road cleaning.
«It is about amending the decision on the division of powers in the area of improvement between municipal enterprises and executive bodies of the Mykolaiv City Council. In this case, the changes relate to two main issues. Firstly, given that the utility company «ELU Avtodorig» has proven itself in mechanised street and road cleaning, from 1 January 2026, all issues related to mechanised cleaning of the territory of Mykolaiv will be transferred from district administrations to the company «ELU Avtodorig»,» said Ihor Nabatov.
In addition, Ihor Nabatov said that the municipal enterprise «Mykolaiv Parks» does not have time to process all requests for the demolition of hazardous trees, so part of this work will be transferred to district administrations.
«Secondly, because the municipal enterprise «Mykolaiv Parks» does not have time to process all requests for tree removal in the city, and with the relevant acts from the Department of Housing and Communal Services agreed with the State Environmental Inspectorate, it was decided to transfer some trees in the cleaning areas to the balance sheet of district administrations. This will allow us to cover as many trees as possible that could be potentially dangerous and are subject to demolition,» said Igor Nabatov.
Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych added that the administrations will continue to control the mechanised cleaning and coordinate work schedules, but will no longer pay for these services. The cleaning will be carried out by the municipal enterprise «ELU Avtodoroig» and it will receive appropriate funding.
In August, the executive committee of Mykolaiv City Council supported the launch of mechanised street and road cleaning with equipment purchased for the city at the expense of the state budget. It is noted that cleaning with this equipment will reduce local budget expenditures by three times.
It is also worth mentioning that the municipal enterprise «ELU Avtodorig» is to be officially assigned new functions, from dismantling destroyed buildings to landscaping adjacent territories.
The company has received the equipment it plans to use to carry out these tasks as part of the assistance provided by the Japanese organisation JICA. It is currently being used at the site for processing construction waste, which, in particular, was generated as a result of Russian shelling of the city, but it is also suitable for dismantling and clearing the territories.
