In the «Heart of the City» square in Mykolaiv, repairs have been halted on the section where the ground had previously subsided and the paving slabs were damaged. Since then, the situation has only worsened — the sinkhole has grown larger.

This is reported by a correspondent for NikVesti.

Repairs began on this section back in February. The area was cordoned off with warning tape and filled with sand, preparing the base for resurfacing. However, work has not resumed. As can be seen on site, the ground has subsided even further, and the sand base has partially collapsed. Deeper potholes and uneven surfaces have formed, which are not being repaired.

At the same time, residents of Mykolaiv have noticed that workers from the municipal enterprise «Mykolaiv Parks», which manages the park, are watering flowers next to the section where the ground continues to sink.

NikVesti sought comment from Ihor Nabatov, Deputy Director of the Mykolaiv Housing and Utilities Department. He noted that information regarding this site should be provided by the entity responsible for the park — the municipal enterprise Mykolaiv Parks.

Oleksandr Bryzhatyi, Deputy Director for Operations at the municipal enterprise Parks, told NikVesti that he had no information regarding further repairs.

«Unfortunately, we have not been informed about repairs or other works. I have no information regarding the timing or progress of these works,» he said.

It should be noted that earlier, Ihor Nabatov, Deputy Director of the Mykolaiv Department of Housing and Communal Services, explained that this section is located above a water main. According to him, the construction of the facility was commissioned by the Regional State Administration’s Department of Architecture. The City Council transferred the client’s functions regarding a number of water mains, including this one, to the regional department.

According to Mykolaivvodokanal, this water main has not yet been commissioned or transferred to the company’s balance sheet, and is therefore not being used for water supply. It is tentatively assumed that the ground subsidence may have been caused by a leak in the underground water main.
