The Mykolaiv court remanded a taxi driver from Kherson, who is suspected of treason, into custody.

This was reported in the Central Court of Mykolaiv.

According to law enforcement officers, a 54-year-old taxi driver from Kherson has been collecting and transmitting information about the location and deployment of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the Russians since February.

«In particular, the man took photos and videos of the location of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in various parts of the city, fortifications, the volunteer center where foreigners worked, and the movement of military convoys. He sent the specified data, indicating addresses or coordinates, to the representative of the aggressor country. Some of these objects were later subjected to shelling with the use of heavy weapons,» the message reads.

The suspect pleaded not guilty, said that his interlocutor was his friend, a former resident of Kherson who moved to Russia. With him, they regularly discussed the locations and consequences of hits in the city. In addition, he did not know that it was against the law to tell anyone information about the location of the military.

«I took photos and videos using a phone attached to the rear side window of the car. He could not explain to the court the reasons for transferring the images, together with the coordinates. He also noted that his friend asked him to provide him with relevant data,» the court added.

According to the results of the investigation, the investigating judge sent the taxi driver to custody, without determining the amount of bail.

Earlier it was reported that the Central District Court of Mykolaiv held another hearing in the case of a 73-year-old local resident charged with treason. Based on the results of consideration of the petition, the court decided to extend the terms of detention.
