An energy-independent school is to be built in Zelenyi Hai, Mykolaiv region

An energy-independent school is planned to be built in the village of Zelenyi Hai of the Shevchenkove community in the Mykolaiv Oblast.

This was reported by head of Zelenyi Hai Oksana Hnedko in the telethon «Yedyni Novyny», NikVesti.

As you know, they promise to rebuild the destroyed school by the end of 2026.

«We plan to make our school, which will be built, also energy-independent. This is very important because it is very convenient not to pay attention to whether the power has been cut off or to any schedules. I wanted the children to have this opportunity. And at the moment, this opportunity will be realised at», she said.

Destroyed school in Zelenyi Hai

An enemy missile hit a school building in the village of Zelenyi Hai in the Shevchenkove community of Mykolaiv region on 13 March 2022. After that, only ruins remained on the site where the renovated and well-maintained building stood. Local residents died as a result of the building's destruction. Subsequently, investigators began to collect evidence of war crimes committed by the Russian military on the territory of the school in the village of Zelenyi Hai. During the inspection, experts found and seized ammunition fragments and other evidence of war crimes.

Plans to rebuild the school at the expense of international partners were announced in June 2024. At that time, it was reported that Lithuania was going to rebuild the destroyed school - the relevant initiative was approved at a meeting of the country's Cabinet of Ministers on 5 June.

When is the school going to be rebuilt?

It is promised to rebuild the destroyed school by the end of 2026. The cost of the project is €2.7 million, which will be financed by the Lithuanian Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid Fund together with Taiwan.

The school will be rebuilt using modular construction to minimise waste, speed up assembly and ensure future adaptability. The new school will also be rebuilt alongside the shelter.
