They promise to rebuild the destroyed school in the village of Zelenyi Hai of the Shevchenkove community of the Mykolaiv region by the end of 2026.

The cost of the project is 2.7 million euros, which will be financed by the Lithuanian Fund for the Development of Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid together with Taiwan, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine reported.

The school will be rebuilt using a modular construction method to minimize waste, speed up assembly and ensure future adaptability, it added. Along with the new school, a shelter will also be built.

«Before the start of construction, the initiators of the project gathered the residents of the community in order to discuss the plan to restore the school and hear their wishes. The work is scheduled to be completed in 2026,» the ministry said.

Ruined school in Green Grove

On March 13, 2022, an enemy rocket hit the school building in the village of Zelenyi Hai of the Shevchenkove community of the Mykolaiv region. After that, only ruins remained on the place where the renovated and well-kept buildings stood. Then local residents died as a result of the destruction of the building. This is stated in the NikVesti article «A mountain of stones instead of a school: how the bombs of the Russian invaders destroyed the life of the village of Zelenyi Hai in the Mykolaiv region.»

Subsequently, investigators began to collect evidence of war crimes committed by the Russian military on the territory of the school in the village of Zelenyi Hai. During the inspection, specialists discovered and removed fragments of ammunition and other evidence of war crimes.

Plans to rebuild the school at the expense of international partners became known in June 2024. At that time, it was reported that Lithuania was going to restore the destroyed school — the relevant initiative was approved on June 5 at a meeting of the country's Cabinet of Ministers.
