In Lviv, at the St. Panteleimon Hospital, medics removed a one and a half centimeter fragment of enemy ammunition from the heart of a soldier.

This was reported in the First Medical Association of Lviv.

42-year-old Roman Kliza from Volyn worked as a driver abroad before the full-scale Russian invasion. After the start of the great war, he joined the Armed Forces, was an aerial scout. Last December, the fighter was seriously injured.

That day, one of his comrades died, and the soldier himself was taken to the hospital.

After being wounded, Roman was in a coma for 9 days in the Dnipro hospital. As a result of a severe mine-explosive injury, he suffered damage to the area in the right part of the brain. One of the projectile fragments got stuck in the man's chest just a millimeter from the arch of the aorta and trachea.

After the soldier's condition stabilized, he was transferred to Lviv, namely to the department of cardiac surgery and heart transplantation of the Heart and Vascular Center of St. Panteleimon Hospital. Here he underwent an operation.

«During the intervention, we opened the chest, mobilized the aorta and arch, and safely removed the fragment that was stuck in the aortic wall without damaging vital structures. The operation lasted two hours. Now the patient's life is not in danger,» says the head of the Heart and Vascular Center of St. Panteleimon Hospital, Roman Domashych.

Currently, the soldier is undergoing rehabilitation — due to brain damage, his left arm was paralyzed, his walking and coordination were impaired.

Earlier, doctors removed a mine fragment from the heart of a 4-year-old girl who was hit by a Russian strike.
