During the war, the Mykolaiv Regional Local History Museum has been hit by shelling on five occasions. The northern part of the building suffered the most damage: windows were shattered and suspended ceilings collapsed.

The museum was closed for the whole of 2022 and only reopened in March 2023. Prior to this, 90 windows, 20 doors and 150 light fittings were installed in the museum using funds from the regional budget. The museum’s roof was repaired using the museum’s own savings, says the director.

The local history museum building was particularly badly damaged by shelling carried out by the occupying forces in September 2022 and April 2023.
