The Mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, has ordered urgent repairs to the damaged section of road at the junction of Tsentralnyi Avenue and 6th Slobidska Street. Following repairs to underground utilities, the tarmac there has subsided, creating a sharp drop in level which vehicles are driving over.

This was discussed during the Mykolaiv City Council session on 29 October, according to NikVesti.

According to the mayor, this section had previously been closed off for works, after which the road surface subsided.

«This is 6 Slobidska Street, on Tsentralnyi Avenue, on the route from the roundabout at the zoo to 3 Slobidska Street. The road surface subsided at that spot following the repairs. Let me remind you that that section had been closed off. And after the subsidence, a sort of bump formed there, which cars are hitting,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

He instructed the Department of Housing and Communal Services and the relevant deputy mayor, Yurii Andriienko, to find out exactly who carried out the excavation work on this section and to repair the road as a matter of urgency.

«I urgently ask you to find out who — the water utility, the regional heating company, or the thermal power station — carried out this excavation, and to repair this section of the road as a matter of urgency,» emphasised the mayor.

It had previously been reported that preparations were being finalised in Mykolaiv for the resurfacing of a section of 6th Slobidska Street — stretching over 500 metres from Tsentralnyi Avenue to 1st Voenna Street.

The repair works were carried out following a large-scale upgrade of the underground networks located beneath the carriageway. An additional storm drainage system was installed at the site to resolve the problem of constant water accumulation during rainfall.

Before the roadworks began, Mykolaiv CHPP PJSC replaced the heating networks, whilst the Mykolaivelektrotrans municipal enterprise renewed the track and sleeper grid on the tram line.
