The head of the «Servant of the People» faction, David Arakhamiia, denied that the Presidential Office had held a meeting on election preparations, as previously reported by the Economist.

In a commentary to Suspilne, he said that he had not personally participated in any such meetings and stressed that they did not take place at all.

«No elections are being prepared, no preparations are being made. All parliamentary parties and groups have agreed that elections should be held 6 months after the lifting of martial law. And our position has not changed,» said David Arakhamiia.

The Central Election Commission also emphasises that elections after the war will require the adoption of a special law on their holding. Deputy Chairman of the CEC Serhii Dubovyk noted that the current law provides for parliamentary elections to be held 60 days after the end of martial law, and presidential elections — 90 days later. However, according to him, this time will not be enough to organise the electoral process.

Earlier, «BBC Ukraine», citing sources in the government and the Presidential Administration, also noted that no meetings on the organisation of the elections had been held.

However, the Economist wrote that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had allegedly already convened a meeting on the possibility of holding elections in July.

As a reminder, in November 2023, representatives of parliamentary factions and groups signed a memorandum stating that elections could take place no earlier than 6 months after the end of the war and the lifting of martial law.

In general, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that elections in Ukraine are very important, but they can only be held after the hot phase of the war is over and martial law is lifted.
