Elections are a fundamental part of Ukraine’s democratic process, encompassing local, parliamentary, and presidential elections. Below is a list of the last elections with explanations of the current situation:

  • Local elections — October 2020. The next elections are scheduled for October 2025.
  • Parliamentary elections — July 2019. Although the term of the Verkhovna Rada has expired, new elections have not been held due to martial law, as Ukrainian law prohibits elections during wartime.
  • Presidential elections — April 2019. President Volodymyr Zelensky’s term has also expired, but elections are not being held for the same reason: martial law and security risks prevent the electoral process from being conducted in wartime conditions.
