Ramil Ahabekov, head of the Servant of the People faction in the Mykolaiv City Council, represented the Mykolaiv region in the US as part of the Ukrainian delegation under the Open World 2026 international exchange programme. In particular, the MP spoke at the Ukrainian flag-raising ceremony in San Jose.

Ramil Ahabekov wrote about the trip on Facebook.

The councillor wrote that he had spoken with the Consul General of Ukraine in San Francisco, Dmytro Kushneruk, about «possible joint projects to support Ukraine and the Mykolaiv region», and also spoke at the Ukrainian flag-raising ceremony.

«The Ukrainian national flag has been raised in the heart of Silicon Valley! An important event took place in San Jose — the ceremonial raising of our blue and yellow flag. To see such respect for our country thousands of kilometres from home is a source of great pride. It was an honour for me to speak at this event as a representative of Ukraine and the Mykolaiv region,» wrote Ramil Ahabekov.

He also said that the delegation visited Stanford University, where they discussed international support for Ukraine and the region.

«As part of the visit, a general meeting took place at Stanford University, as well as an in-depth personal conversation with Michael McFaul — co-chair of the international expert group on sanctions and a true friend of Ukraine. During the private conversation, we were able to discuss in detail a number of important issues, including international support for Ukraine and our region, as well as further steps for cooperation,» the MP said.

The Ukrainian delegation also visited Washington and Santa Fe (New Mexico).

As a reminder, in 2025, on the eve of Children’s Day, representatives of the Children’s Services Department of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration held a «ceremonial» handover of fruit and sweets to children at a family-type children’s home and a large family from the Stepove community. The RMA’s Facebook page reported that the event took place with the support of RVA Deputy Head Ramil Ahabekov.
