Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, has invited American businesses to invest in the region’s ports and logistics.

He wrote about this in a column for the American online media outlet The Daily Signal, NikVesti reports.

Vitalii Kim cited the region as an example of potential post-war development.

«My home region — Mykolaiv, which is on the front line of the war — is a shining example,» he wrote.

According to the head of the Regional State Administration, prior to the full-scale invasion, Mykolaiv was a centre for shipbuilding, the agricultural sector and industry, and the restoration of Black Sea ports is critically important not only for Ukraine but also for the global food market.

Vitalii Kim believes that once the war is over, Mykolaiv could become a hub for port modernisation, grain logistics, ship repair, high-tech manufacturing, renewable energy, water infrastructure and industrial parks.

«For American investors, this presents practical opportunities: restoration of port capacity, development of terminal concessions, partnerships in agricultural exports, financing of energy sustainability projects, expansion of industrial production, modernisation of water infrastructure and the creation of logistics hubs in a strategically important region with a skilled workforce,» the column states.

As a reminder, the Kingdom of Denmark is considering the possibility of using the site of the state-owned enterprise «Mykolaiv Shipyard» (formerly the 61 Communards Shipyard, — note) for public space.

The NikVesti article titled «A Chance for Recovery: Why Mykolaiv began work on a master plan in the midst of the war», it was noted, in particular, that the Mykolaiv Shipyard itself, specifically its northern section near the Temvod neighbourhood, could become an attractive site for a pilot industrial park project with access to water. However, as this is part of the city centre, the focus is more likely to be on light industry, such as the construction and maintenance of motorboats and yachts.

In 2019, during public consultations on the updated master plan for the city of Mykolaiv, it was also mentioned that the plan envisaged the creation of a technology park on the site of the «Mykolaiv Shipyard», including a research centre and a campus.

It is worth noting that due to regular shelling of the buildings of the state-owned enterprise «Mykolaiv Shipyard», environmental damage in 2023 amounted to over 957 million hryvnias.

At the time, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, Vitalii Kim, stated that one of his strategic objectives was the revival of shipbuilding in the Mykolaiv region. And despite the current realities, Vitalii Kim recently stated that the city retains its potential in the shipbuilding sector, albeit in a different format and at a reduced capacity.
