Photo: NikVestiYesterday, 23 June, the inaugural meeting of the Mykolaiv Regional Youth Congress took place in Mykolaiv. It will form part of the all-Ukrainian system of youth representation under the President of Ukraine.
This was reported by a correspondent for NikVesti.
Viktor Mykyta, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, joined the event online. He noted that the creation of regional youth congresses is a response to young people’s calls for greater participation in decision-making and the development of the state.
«Today, your communities have delegated you to the youth congress and granted you representative powers. You will have the opportunity to participate in shaping decisions concerning the development of your communities and the country. The President’s decision to establish regional youth congresses is intended to engage young people in taking responsibility for the future of the state and to support their participation in public life,» said Viktor Mykyta.
Vitalii Kim addressed the congress participants and called on young people to become more actively involved in the governance of their communities and the state. He shared his own experience of working in government bodies and emphasised that, to achieve results, it is important to combine initiative with experience.
«You’re in luck, because I don’t consider myself particularly old; I have children aged 18–19. I know what «slob», «cringe» and «ROFL» mean. So we’re on the same wavelength. Despite that, I’ve been to Kyiv three times at different ages: at 23, 29 and then again at 40. And these were different stages for me. The first was when I wanted to conquer the whole world, change the whole country, «take everyone down», drive everyone out, and overcome corruption — it was a kind of maximalism. The second was when I realised that I needed to lay the foundations, that I had to get myself into a position where I could actually make decisions and bring about change in the country. And the third was when I was already an adult and thought: right, to do this I need this, that and the other; I need experience. Now I’m going to change everything. I hope you’ll get through all three stages as quickly as possible so you can achieve your goals,» said Vitalii Kim.

«I want all of you to be leaders. Progressive, young leaders who have gone through these stages. It’s possible; it’s simple. It’s simply necessary. I understand how difficult it is to talk to young people. But I know it’s possible. It all depends solely on you,» added Vitalii Kim.
Kyrylo Ravinskyy, Deputy Head of the Youth and Sport Department at the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, noted that representatives from all the region’s local communities were present at the meeting. A proposal was therefore put forward to form the Mykolaiv Regional Youth Congress in accordance with the relevant procedures and registration data.
Yevhen Yevsiukov was the sole candidate for the post of Congress Chair. Delegates had the opportunity to vote for or against him using the appropriate voting cards. The majority of participants supported his candidacy. He had previously headed the Youth Council at the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration.

«Well, actually, that’s how it all works. Whenever I’ve been asked for my opinion on candidates, I always say: «I’ll have my say.» Let me put the proposal forward again. It really works. In reality, we want there to be democracy, for people to compete for a place. And we want them to feel the competition, just as it used to be. We have great respect for his work (the candidate’s, — note), so I support this candidate, but there always needs to be competition,» said Vitalii Kim.
The newly elected chair of the Mykolaiv Regional Youth Congress, Yevhen Yevsiukov, thanked the participants for their support and the organisers for staging the event.
«I would also like to thank the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration and the Mykolaiv Regional Administration for their involvement in organising the event. Thank you to everyone here today for placing your trust in my candidacy. Although there were no other candidates, everyone had the opportunity to stand. I thank you for coming here and for believing in me, and I very much hope that we will be able to carry out high-quality work, and that our congress will become one of the first of its kind in the country,» said Yevhen Yevsiukov.

«Firstly, youth councils are not being abolished; these are parallel processes. They will continue to operate in communities just as they have done before. Regional congresses, on the other hand, will operate at the regional and national levels, gathering proposals from young people and developing joint recommendations for further consideration,» noted Heorhii Reshetilov, First Deputy Head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.
According to him, the creation of the congress gives young people an additional opportunity to communicate directly with state institutions and participate in decision-making.
«In other words, our regional organisation has been set up to defend the interests of young people within the region, to work with the regional council and administration, and to raise these issues at the national level — with the government and the president. The creation of a separate body enables young people to put forward their proposals directly through the congress, take part in discussions and represent their interests at national level. This is important because it is a real mechanism for youth participation in decision-making,» added Vitalii Kim.

Photo: NikVestiEarlier, Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, stated that holding elections in Ukraine during the war would not contribute to national unity. According to him, the war must first be brought to an end, and only then should elections be held.
Prior to this, Vitalii Kim had noted that he was not considering standing in the presidential election, and listed the completion of judicial reform and the reconstruction of the south among his political priorities.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that elections in Ukraine would take place after the war had ended, rather than during a temporary ceasefire.
Recently, the Central Election Commission has called on Ukrainian citizens living abroad to update their electoraladdress via the State Voter Register. This can be done online.
