The European Parliament approved a resolution in support of Ukraine and condemned the uncoordinated foreign policy actions of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. The resolution also calls for expanding sanctions against Russia.

As «European Pravda» reports, the resolution, which was supported by 495 MEPs out of 679 who voted, confirms support for «the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.»

It (resolution, note) condemns the recent visit of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to Russia, «emphasizes that during this visit he did not represent the EU, and considers this visit a flagrant violation of EU treaties and common foreign policy.»

The majority of the European Parliament condemned Hungary's abuse of its presidency of the Council of the EU and called on it to lift the blockade of financing Ukraine from the European Peace Fund.

The resolution contains calls for continuing military, financial and other assistance to Ukraine, support for Ukraine's accession to the European Union, and the use of frozen Russian assets. Separately, it condemns the Russian shelling of Okhmatdyt and Russia's hybrid attacks against the EU.

In this regard, the European Parliament calls on the EU Council to «continue and expand its policy of sanctions against Russia and Belarus, while monitoring, reviewing and improving its effectiveness and impact.»

It should be noted that the resolution in support of Ukraine became the first document adopted by the European Parliament after the June elections. The proposal of the Eurogroup «Patriots for Europe» to condemn the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, put forward earlier, was rejected.

It will be recalled that the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, handed over to the EU leaders his «peace plan» for the end of Russia's war against Ukraine. He emphasized that his country can play a serious role in mediation.

Earlier, on July 8, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán arrived in the capital of China, Beijing.

Before that, on July 5, he visited Moscow within the framework of bilateral relations between Hungary and Russia. According to him, this visit is taking place within the framework of a «peacekeeping mission».

For its part, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reacted to the trip of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to Moscow for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. They emphasized that the decision to make this trip was made by the Hungarian side without agreement or coordination with Ukraine.

On July 12, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held a meeting with the US presidential candidate Donald Trump, discussing the issue of «making peace».
