Hungarian politician, former Prime Minister of Hungary

Viktor Orban is a Hungarian politician who led the government of Hungary in 1998–2002 and from 2010 to May 2026. As prime minister, in February 2024 he agreed to lift his veto on €50 billion in EU aid for Ukraine, and in July 2024 he came to Kyiv for the first time in more than 10 years, soon followed by a trip to Moscow to meet Putin as part of his «peace mission». That year his Fidesz party had its worst ever result in the European Parliament elections. In May 2026 Hungary’s ruling Tisza party proposed constitutional changes that limit a prime minister to two terms and could block Orban’s return to the post.
