President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that if the war drags on, it will be necessary to find ways to hold elections.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in an interview with the BBC.

He noted that conducting elections during a war is difficult, as it requires amendments to the Constitution, which cannot be done during martial law.

«How can elections be held in the trenches?! There must be observers. No observers will come to the trenches,» the president said.

In addition, he added that people in the temporarily occupied territories will also not be able to vote, and more than 7 million Ukrainians are abroad, and they too need to be provided with the opportunity to vote.

«People who are fighting for democracy at the front, will not have a democratic choice?!,» Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

In an interview with the BBC, he also said that he foresaw a time when he would retire, but that it would happen «…not before the war is over.»

We will remind you that a survey by the Razumkov Center showed that Ukrainians are divided in their views on negotiations with Russia. Most do not agree with Putin's terms. It is noted that 44% of Ukrainians believe that the time has come to start official peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, while 35% are convinced that this is not the case.
