The head of the agricultural committee Haydu predicts an increase in the prices of vegetables, fruits and dairy products

The head of the Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy Oleksandr Haydu said that a number of goods may increase in value in the near future. We are talking about the prices of vegetables, fruits and dairy products.

This was reported by the press service of the People's Deputy.

«Traditionally, the price of vegetables and fruits starts to rise in the fall, because during the cold weather they need to be stored in specialized storage facilities. This leads to an increase in the cost of production and a decrease in supply, because farms that do not have such warehouses try to sell their products before the onset of cold weather, and farms that have warehouses try to «stretch» sales until the beginning of summer, when the price will be higher», — stressed Oleksandr Haydu.

So the price of vegetables and fruits will gradually increase by 5-10% every month. The cost of dairy products will also increase, but not critically — by 3-5%. Also, in winter, you should again expect a significant increase in the price of eggs.

«Chicken eggs will again be the record holder for price growth this year. A large share of eggs in Ukraine is produced in small farms. We are now at a point where the supply from households is decreasing and the price is starting to go up. Therefore, there is a high probability that by the New Year's holidays, prices will reach last year's level, when eggs on the shelves cost about UAH 75 per dozen,» — noted Oleksandr Haydu.

Oleksandr Haydu added that, despite the predicted price increase, the cost of most products in the fall of 2023 will be cheaper than last year. In particular, buckwheat fell in price more than 2 times. By the way, this year's buckwheat harvest is a record, so this will also contribute to lowering the price of groats, Oleksandr Haydu concluded.
