Today, on 19 March, 175 Ukrainian servicemen, including soldiers from Mykolaiv region, returned from Russian captivity.
This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to him, another 22 defenders are returning home thanks to measures outside of exchanges. Among them are severely wounded soldiers and servicemen illegally persecuted by Russia. All those released will be provided with emergency medical and psychological assistance.
«This is one of the largest exchanges. Our soldiers, sergeants and officers are returning. Soldiers who fought for our freedom in the Armed Forces, Navy, National Guard, Territorial Defence Forces and Border Guard. They defended Ukraine in various areas — in Mariupol, at «Azovstal», in Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy and Kursk regions. Ukraine remembers each and every one of our heroes, and we will definitely bring all our people home», he wrote.
Zelensky thanked everyone who worked on this exchange, especially the United Arab Emirates.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the 175-for-175 prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia, which was discussed during a telephone conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
As a reminder, in February this year , 25 Mykolaiv marines defending Mariupol were released from Russian captivity.
