A community in Kherson region will grow medicinal cannabis

The Novovorontsovka community in the Kherson region is considering the possibility of growing medical cannabis as a way to revive the region's economy.

The head of the Novovorontsovka village military administration, Andrii Seletskyi, told TSN in an interview.

Due to the war, the community's population has halved, and local farmers are finding it increasingly difficult to make money. According to Seletskyi, this year's farmers' income barely covered their expenses, and the situation is complicated by the abolition of the land tax.

«When we analysed the profits of local farmers this year, they barely broke even. This is because the land tax has been cancelled,» he said.

To find alternative sources of income, the community, together with the Kherson Regional State Administration, is studying the legal framework and documents required for the legal cultivation of medicinal cannabis.

«Because we are now, quite frankly, studying all possible documents with the support of the Kherson Regional State Administration on the possibility of growing medicinal cannabis,» said Andrii Seletskyi.
