Two utility companies in Mykolaiv have received 15 diesel generators as part of assistance from the US Government through the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
The decision to distribute this aid was made on 12 March at a meeting of the executive committee of the city council, according to NikVesti.
Ihor Nabatov, deputy director of the Housing and Utilities Department of the Mykolaiv City Council, explained that the generators were provided before the ban on cooperation with USAID in Ukraine was imposed, and they are now being distributed among enterprises.
«With this decision, we are distributing the international assistance that was received before the ban on USAID activities in Ukraine. We are talking about 15 generators received back in December, of which 5 are 80 kilowatts and 10 are 100 kilowatts,» he said.
Municipal utility company «Mykolaivvodokanal» received 12 generators, and KP «Mykolaivelektrotrans» received 3. The total book value of the equipment is over 5 million hryvnias.
As a reminder, on 26 January, it became known that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Ukraine had been instructed to suspend all projects and related expenditures.
On 28 January, the US State Department revised its decision to suspend funding for USAID programmes, introducing a number of exceptions. They primarily apply to humanitarian programmes that provide «essential life-saving medicines, medical services, food, shelter, and living assistance, as well as supplies and reasonable administrative costs necessary to provide such assistance».
Due to the suspension of funding for USAID programmes in Mykolaiv, projects worth several million dollars are being frozen. Read about them in the article NikVesti.
