US government civilian foreign aid agency

USAID, the United States Agency for International Development, is the US government agency that funded aid to Ukraine, particularly in the energy sector and public utilities. In 2024 it allocated more than 190 million dollars for a five-year programme to support Ukraine's energy sector. Mykolaiv received road repair machinery, seven power transformers and 15 diesel generators for its water utility and electric transport from USAID. In early 2025 the Trump administration suspended funding for USAID programmes, and the agency was placed under the control of the US State Department.

MykVisti reports on which projects in Mykolaiv were frozen by the US decision and how Ukrainian officials responded, as well as on the court fight over closing the agency and the effect of the cuts on HIV treatment.
