Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the number of students in Mykolaiv schools has decreased by almost 10,000.

At the beginning of 2022, there were 46304 students in city schools, the Mykolaiv City Council's education department told the editorial board. And as of the end of March 2025, this number is 36743, of which 7% of students are outside Mykolaiv and another 16% are abroad.

As of the beginning of 2025, 64% of students in Mykolaiv region were studying full-time or in a mixed format.

What is the situation with children's education in Mykolaiv?

The Executive Committee of the Mykolaiv City Council has approved the opening of some city schools and kindergartens from 1 September 2024.

Only those schools and kindergartens that have appropriate shelters can operate offline. In general, students can choose from several possible learning formats: online, offline or in a mixed format. In this case, the mixed format is possible in two ways: on the basis of the educational institution where the child is already studying or on the basis of a new educational institution.

The decision on the format of education for each child is made individually by their parents. To do this, they need to fill out the relevant applications, which can be obtained from the educational institution.
