This year, the area under cultivation in Mykolaiv Oblast increased by 5%.

As reported by Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, on Novyny.LIVE, there is a certain threat of flooding, which could cause some areas to be inundated. There is also a risk of spring frosts.

«There is cautious optimism because the winter was snowy and wet, which has accumulated. There is a certain threat of flooding, and some areas may be flooded. In addition, there is a risk of frost when the crops are sprouting. Overall, the number of crops has increased by 5% this year,» said Vitalii Kim.

He also added that a significant part of the agricultural land in the region has already been cleared of mines.

»As for demining, almost all fields have already been cleared of mines, about 600,000 hectares, even in the most difficult areas. Moreover, the General Staff is now raising the issue of defending new frontiers. And I say that we must take into account the balance between security and the fact that people need to work on the land. In my opinion, there is cautious optimism. The two main risks now are flooding and possible frosts. Otherwise, we expect a good harvest due to favourable weather conditions. This is especially important after the previous two seasons, which were extremely difficult for farmers,» added Vitalii Kim.

As a reminder, in the Mykolaiv region, a farming couple from Ochakiv harvested this year's pomegranate crop. Although the crop remains atypical for most regions of Ukraine, it thrives in the south and bears fruit consistently. This season, farmers managed to harvest several boxes of juicy fruits, although part of the crop was damaged due to excessive moisture.
