National Bank of Ukraine issues new commemorative coin «Spirit of Christmas». Photo: NBUThe National Bank of Ukraine has presented a new commemorative coin dedicated to one of the main Christian holidays, Christmas.
The bank announced this on its Facebook page.
NBU Governor Andriy Pyshny said that the coin «Spirit of Christmas» embodies the atmosphere of a family holiday and symbolises the unity of Ukrainians, even despite the distance.
«Our new commemorative coin «Spirit of Christmas» embodies the deep traditions of a bright family holiday that have kept Ukrainians together for generations. It features a stylised image of a golden straw didukh, a traditional attribute of Ukrainian Christmas, and is full of the warmth and cosiness of a Ukrainian family's pre-Christmas meal. And although many families are separated by distance today, we are still in each other's hearts at a common festive table. Let's keep this connection!», he said.
The 10 hryvnia coin is made of 925 silver and weighs 31.1 grams. The coin is decorated with two-sided local gilding and a 1.5 mm diamond. The mintage is up to 15 thousand pieces.

The background is in the form of a window illuminated by the starry Christmas sky, and a diamond is placed in the centre of the Star of Bethlehem.
The reverse of the coin illustrates a traditional pre-Christmas meal of a Ukrainian family. The images of parents and children are presented in the form of celestial bodies: the halos around their heads symbolise the Sun, Moon and stars. Twelve Christmas dishes are on the table, including kutia, dumplings, donuts, fish, and garlic as a talisman.
The National Bank of Ukraine has issued a new commemorative coin «Spirit of Christmas». Photo: NBUThe design of the coin was created by artists Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr and Serhii Haruki, as well as sculptors Anatolii Demianenko and Volodymyr Atamanchuk.
Earlier this year, the National Bank of Ukraine decided to gradually withdraw 10 kopiikas from circulation starting from 1 October 2025.
