The head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration Vitalii Kim said that in 2026 the region would receive funding to repair roads used to transport students to schools.

He said this during the final press conference for 2025 on Thursday, 25 December, according to NikVesti.

He noted that currently 87% of children in the region study in full-time or mixed formats, but one of the key problems is the road to schools in the communities.

«We have a very urgent problem of roads to schools. I raised this issue six months ago. The reform was created, including the transportation of pupils to schools, but they forgot that there were no roads,» said Vitalii Kim.

He noted that the region had analysed the routes for transporting pupils: they collected data on the number of children, the duration of trips and the condition of the roads and in September passed the information to the Ministry.

«We systematised the data, broke it down by the number of pupils and the hours they travel, and sent it to the ministry in September. We were promised that they would have it ready for 2026. These are the issues that I am asking you to raise, that this is a tragedy, that children need to get to school quickly. This is a problem that needs to be solved,» said the head of the RMA.

Vitalii Kim said in October that Mykolaiv Regional Administration was studying options for repairing the destroyed roads used to transport children to schools on a daily basis.

Recently, NikVesti told how children from the Mykolaiv region walk 27 kilometres every day on an emergency road from the village of Andriievo-Zoryne to Kalynivka in the Berezanka community to get to school and kindergarten.
